An-Najm · 53:20

In context

1. مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ

   53:17The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]

2. لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ

   53:18He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord

3. أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ

   53:19So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza

4. وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰٓ

   53:20And Manat, the third - the other one

5. أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ

   53:21Is the male for you and for Him the female

6. تِلۡكَ إِذٗا قِسۡمَةٞ ضِيزَىٰٓ

   53:22That, then, is an unjust division

7. إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّآ أَسۡمَآءٞ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٍۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ

   53:23They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance
