Al-Fajr · 89:16

In context

1. فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ

   89:13So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment

2. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ

   89:14Indeed, your Lord is in observation

3. فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ

   89:15And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me

4. وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ

   89:16But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me

5. كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

   89:17No! But you do not honor the orphan

6. وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

   89:18And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor

7. وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا

   89:19And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether
