Al-Fajr · 89:18

In context

1. فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ

   89:15And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me

2. وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ

   89:16But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me

3. كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

   89:17No! But you do not honor the orphan

4. وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

   89:18And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor

5. وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا

   89:19And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether

6. وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا

   89:20And you love wealth with immense love

7. كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا

   89:21No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed
